The fly plaid, as we know it today, evolved from the upper part of the great plaid (Féileadh mór) which was worn throughout Highland Scotland. The modern fly plaid is traditionally worn on formal occasions with full Highland dress, however in recent times the fly plaid has become a popular accessory with more relaxed casual kilt dress.
When wearing with an Argyll or Prince Charlie jacket the fly plaid is draped over the left shoulder and run under the left epaulette, a sturdy plaid brooch secures the plaid to the jacket front.
Our full sized fly plaids are made from the finest quality Scottish woven wool in an extensive range of over seven hundred light, medium, and heavy weight tartans.
